We are proud to hold the Gold Sports Mark for the third year running.

In PE lessons, children are encouraged to discover through experience the range of movement of which the body is capable. In this way motor co-ordination and control is developed through body awareness, enabling children to be more imaginative and effective in a wide variety of situations. We have two halls, both of which are well equipped with both large and small apparatus and opportunities are provided for gymnastic activities and development of dance and games skills. There is a range of extra-curricular sports activities from EYFS to Y6 available before school, at lunchtime or after school.

Year 4 children have swimming lessons at The Boswells School. We benefit enormously from being in a Sports Partnership with local secondary schools in buying in high quality coaching for our children in every class. Y6 children receive swimming booster classes in the summer term if necessary. In July 2023, 86% of our Y6 children reported they were able to swim 25m unaided.

• develop physical competence and enable pupils to engage in physical activities
• promote physical development and teach pupils to value the benefits of participation in physical activity
• develop artistic and aesthetic understanding within and through movement
• develop self-confidence and self-belief through sporting opportunities

We use our Sport Premium Funding to:

• engage all pupils in regular physical activity
• raise the profile of PE and sport across the school
• increased the confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
• provide a broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all children
• increase participation in competitive sport

Children are given opportunities to take part in sporting events with local schools and also represent their school in a range of sporting competitions.

This year the children were introduced to  circus skills, badminton, archery, nerf wars, maypole dancing and equestrian events as we try to encourage more children to participate in different activities.
